The Goose Island Syncopators

The popular Goose Island Syncopators seem to have been going for as long as anyone can remember.

Formed in the mid 70’s by Jack Tate, Keith Newnham and the late Percy Westwood, they play fun, foot-tapping favourites with a repertoire of early jazz and blues, plus a selection of up-to-the-late-1930’s standards, and usually with a vocal refrain.

The Goose Island Syncopators have been a fixture in many well known Island pubs and clubs over the years, and have appeared at most of the summer jazz, steam-up, boating festivals and other events that are held each year here on the island. They are a regular fixture in the Cowes Week entertainment calendar, and also played every year at the former Mottistone Jazz event from its start in 1988.

Still firmly Island based, the present line up is:

  • Jack Tate - trumpet, valve trombone and vocals.
  • Rob Brace – violin.
  • Brian Munro – guitar and vocals.
  • Rupert Brown – percussion.
  • Brad Martin – double bass.
  • Keith Newnham – banjo, guitar and vocals.

Always a favourite with audiences, the Syncopators will get you firmly in the mood for a fun musical evening!
